Hoping to use VideoAsk with your favorite app? Use Zapier to connect VideoAsk to thousands of other web services.
Zapier is a platform that lets you connect apps through a series of automated connections, called zaps. Through these triggers, you can automate day-to-day tasks and build workflows between apps that otherwise wouldn't be possible without coding.
Each zap has one app as the trigger, where your information comes from, which causes one or more actions in other apps, where your data gets sent automatically.
A Zapier account is required but free plans are available.

Connect VideoAsk and Zapier with a template
You have two options to connect VideoAsk and Zapier - by creating a new zap in Zapier or using a template from the VideoAsk connect panel.
In this example, we will be connecting a videoask to Slack and will receive a notification each time someone has completed the videoask.
1. Log in to your VideoAsk account and select the videoask you want to add a trigger to. Click Connect to other apps.
2. In the connect panel, scroll down to the desired app template and click Connect.
If you don't see a Zapier template listed for your preferred app, then you'll need to set up the zap from within your Zapier account from their app catalog.
3. This will open a new tab or window. Click Try this template.
You'll then be given an overview of how the template works. Click Get Started to start editing the template and finish the setup.
4. If you have multiple Zapier accounts, choose which account you'd like to use for this zap.
5. Zapier will now connect to your VideoAsk account. If prompted, log in to your VideoAsk account to give access to your videoasks there. Click Next.
6. If you're part of more than one organization in VideoAsk, you'll need to select in which organization the videoask you want to use for the zap is in. Once selected, click Next.
7. Select which videoask you want to connect. Then click Next.
8. Now you'll need to select your Slack account. Click Connect a new account if you've never used Slack for a zap before, or select your Slack account and click Next.
9. Select the channel to send Slack messages to when you receive a new response.
If you'd like to send a direct message instead of a message to a channel, you'll need to set up the zap manually by creating a new zap from your Zapier account.
10. Choose which fields to include in the Slack message and click Next.
11. Choose which fields from your videoask form to include in the Slack message.
Add any other additional text to the Message Text.
12. Set any final settings for your Slack bot messages and click Next.
13. Review all your zap settings. If you're ready to give it a whirl, click Send test.
If everything has run smoothly, you should see this green success message and your test appear in Slack.
If things have not been configured correctly, you will see a red error message prompting you to go back and reconfigure your zap. When all is good, click Next.
14. Make one final review of your zap settings in VideoAsk and Slack. If you're ready to start using your messaging trigger, click Turn on Zap.
Create a new zap to connect with VideoAsk
1. Log in to your Zapier account and click Create Zap.
2. Search for and select VideoAsk from the Zapier app catalog.
3. Choose what event in VideoAsk will trigger the zap.
Then, click Continue.
4. Choose which VideoAsk account you would like to connect to.
If you haven't connected your VideoAsk account to Zapier before, you'll be prompted to log in. After you've selected the appropriate account, click Continue.
5. Select which organization and videoask you'd like to connect.
Then, click Continue.
6. Zapier will now prompt you to test your trigger to make sure everything is running smoothly. Click Test trigger to ensure your videoask is properly connected.
7. If everything is working well, you'll see a test response pulled through from VideoAsk. Click Continue to finish setting up your zap.
Note: If the trigger event has never happened (ie receiving a new response to your videoask), you may receive an error message. If so, submit a test response or reply to your videoask, then disconnect and reconnect your VideoAsk account in Zapier and try the test trigger again.
8. Now it's time to select which app your zap will connect VideoAsk to. Search for and select Slack from the Zapier app catalog.
9. Choose the Action Event. This is what event will happen when you receive a response or reply in VideoAsk. In our case, we'd like to receive a direct message in Slack.
Then, click Continue.
10. Select your Slack account and click Continue.
11. Configure your action preferences. Note that the configuration options will vary depending on the action app you have selected.
In our case, we want to receive a message on Slack from a bot when we receive a response to the videoask.
When you're satisfied with your settings, click Continue.
12. You'll now be prompted to test this second part of your trigger. Click either Test and Review or Test and Continue.
13. If your test is successful, you're all set! Now you just have to Turn your zap on and the action you just set up will now happen every time you receive a response or reply in VideoAsk. 🙂
Zap filters
With the connection setup above, each time you receive a response or reply to your videoask, the trigger you defined will happen.
But what if you only want the trigger to happen if a respondent gives a specific answer to a single step of your videoask? This is where zap filters step in!
Note: Currently zap filters are only supported by the multiple-choice, open ended, and NPS® answer types.
In our example, the second step of our videoask uses a multiple-choice answer type where respondents have the answer choices: "Daily", "1x a week", and "A few times a month". While we care about their responses to other steps of our videoask, we only want to be notified on Slack if someone gets to step 2 and has selected the answer choice "Daily" or "1x a week".
1. To add a filter to an existing zap, click the + icon between the trigger and action in Zapier.
2. Instead of adding an app, select Filter to add a condition to your zap.
3. Select which VideoAsk response field to include in your condition. If you don't see all the step options listed, make sure to click Show all options.
Note: Each step of your videoask has multiple response fields for the different types of data collected in that step, which is dependent on the answer type you have selected.
For example, step 2 of our videoask is a multiple-choice question, so we'll see these fields displayed as:
1. 2. [step transcript or overlay text]...[data field]
To create a zap filter based on the multiple-choice option selected, we will need to choose Option Text.
4. Then we'll choose what the field should contain or match to:
5. If the response should match a specific number or selected option, type this in the condition's value field.
6. If you'd like to add more conditions to your filter, click +And or +Or.
7. When you're ready, click Continue to test your condition.
8. If it's been set up properly and a response meets its conditions, you'll see a success message and now the Zapier zap will only trigger when the condition you created is met.
In our case, we will only receive a message on Slack when someone gets to step 2 of our videoask and answers with "Daily" or "1x a week".
Note: You'll receive the notification in Slack when the respondent has completed the videoask.
Format your Zap filter by answer type
To effectively configure your Zapier zap, you'll need to select the appropriate field for the answer type of that step of your videoask. If the wrong field is selected, then the filter (and therefore the zap) will not work.
Note that while only multiple-choice, open ended, and NPS® answer types are currently supported for zap filters, steps of all answer types will display in Zapier.
Multiple-Choice
- Choose the Option text field.
- Select (Text) Contains or (Text) Exactly matches filter option.
- Type the answer of the multiple-choice option you want to filter for in the value field.
- Add any additional conditions by clicking + And or + Or.
Open Ended
- Choose Answer type field.
- Select (Text) Contains filter option.
- Type text, audio, or video to filter by different response formats.
Net Promoter Score (NPS®)
- Choose the NPS®score field.
- Select Greater than, Less than, or a (Text) filter option.
- Type the number you would like to filter by in the value field.
FAQ
This is cool, but I'd like this to work in the other direction. So an event happens in [my favorite] app and that triggers an action in VideoAsk. Is that possible?
Yes. You can set up a zap to create a new contact in VideoAsk when someone submits their contact information through another app.
For example, you can create a new contact in VideoAsk when you receive a new subscriber in Mailchimp. To do this, select New Subscriber in Mailchimp as the trigger. Then select the following action in VideoAsk:
- Create a Contact in VideoAsk (Recommended) - Create a Contact in VideoAsk (added directly to your contact list)
Once the contact is created, you can then send them a video message to start a conversation in VideoAsk.
Note: Currently, this is the only zap to trigger an action in VideoAsk through Zapier.
My zap is not working. Can you help?
If your zap is not working due to a bug or error coming from VideoAsk, then we're happy to help! Just contact our support team using the button at the bottom of this page.
